Loreto, a small Mexican town on the inner coast of the Baja California peninsula, was particularly hard-hit by the coronavirus and all its difficulties. What once was a lowkey tourist destination – due to its perfect combination of adventure and relaxation – became a vacant town full of family businesses struggling to see a light at the end of the tunnel. A location so used to tranquility was now in the eye of the storm of economic hardship.
The global travel ban had a snowball effect in Loreto, leading first to a loss of business, which then turned into no work and thus no income. And the last thing you want to be worrying about in a situation like that is what your next meal is going to be; however, this became a new reality for some.
This charming little town has provided us with so many great memories over the years, so it was absolutely heart-breaking to see the inhabitants we’ve grown to know so well struggling each day and with no end in sight. Our deep love for this town and it’s people was all we needed to make a trip out there and try our best to help.
Together with the rest of our One World Beef family (OWB Packers, One World Beef, One World Meat Company), we donated 1000 lbs of pre-sliced beef and Baja Jerky bags to the most vulnerable families in Loreto. Our dear friend, Captain Rigo Martinez, led the charge at the Mission Loreto and saw first-hand how touched everyone was by our gesture. Rigo said the experience he got to share with his people was overwhelming, and he thanked us immensely for helping out his community.
We’re so grateful we were able to give back to a community that has given us so much. In turn, we’d like to thank you all from the bottom of our hearts for supporting our business, so we can do incredible things like this!
Operation Mission Loreto: Success!
